A College Assignment
As a college student studying fashion and design, we were told by our professor that we would be given a month to prepare for a gala event.
The university would be holding its yearly event, and the department of design will be doing a ramp modelling, and all the lady university students would be walking down the ramp in their best gowns.
That got all of the female students into panicking. What ramp modelling? We are students of the fashion and design, learning and working on how to enhance our craft, how would ramp modelling help our career and learning?
And then it hit me.
We were creating fashion, designing clothes, homes, architecture, and coming up with the latest trend for men and women to wear, so why should we remain in the background?
With this in mind, we mercilessly scoured the internet for the best gowns and evening dresses that we would look smashing in. Why let the audience think that fashion and design students were nerds and geeks?
We then found Tony Bowls’ collection.
Each one of us simply found the best evening dress that suited our personality. There was a homecoming dress that simply enhanced one’s eccentric beauty, and there was another homecoming dress that simply wowed everyone, with matching mini hat.
This college assignment was a dismay in the beginning turned out to be a blessing in disguise. It made each of us fashion and design student know what happens when placed in the limelight, which has changed our way of thinking that we, as designers, rule. This time, because of that assignment, we now know that our models take as much of the limelight as we, designers, take as well.
